The Leeds Irish Centre

Leeds Irish Sound Archive (LISA)

The research is to include Irish born and second and third (plus) generation residents living in Leeds and surrounding towns and cities in Yorkshire of Irish parentage and the Irish born new arrivals in Yorkshire since 2000.

As a result of information being made available in the Information area at St Patrick’s Day Parade in Leeds on Sunday 17th March 2024, BBC Look North is interested in finding out more about the Irish in Yorkshire. A meeting has been arranged for Wednesday 17 April 2024 with Look North at 6:30pm at Leeds Irish Centre York Road, Leeds LS9 9NT for individuals and representatives of the different Irish organisations to have input into this research project.

If you have photos of paper cuttings relating to events in the past, please bring them with you, they will be useful to show others attending, if you haven’t, that doesn’t matter.  Attendees at the parade who showed interest in the research on St Patrick’s Day who left their contact details will also be invited to attend.

The Research is looking into cultural activities in the past, what is taking place now and how the Irish community groups would like this to evolve into the future and how we can keep our culture alive over the next 20 years. An integral part of the research is the interpretation of an Irish identity within the Irish in Yorkshire’s community.

If you know of Irish individuals or organisations who would be interested in giving their views would you kindly let them know of this research and meeting date..

The meeting being held on the 17 April is a pilot meeting to enable us to update the research requirements with input from individual and group discussions, with a view to rolling this out in the very near future. Should you be unable to attend on the 17th, alternative arrangements will be in place in the near future and can be found under the News menu on Leeds Irish Centre’s website.

Would you please notify of your intention to attend   email: lisaleedsirishcentre@gmail.com.
